Amber Returns to Monaco for Farewell Jubilee Edition!

The first Amber tournament was held in Roquebrune, France, in 1992 to celebrate the birth of Mr and Mrs Van Oosterom's daughter Melody Amber. That first tournament was a rapid event won by Vasily Ivanchuk, the only player to have taken part in all Amber tournaments (and the shared winner, together with Magnus Carlsen, of last year's edition!). In the tournament of 1993 the formula was introduced that made 'Amber' unique in the chess world: a double round-robin in which the grandmasters play both a rapid and a blindfold game against each other. The 1993 tournament took place in Monaco, which would become the home of 'Amber' till it moved to Nice in 2008. For historical reasons Mr and Mrs Van Oosterom and the Association Max Euwe have chosen to return to Monaco for the farewell edition of this unique chess spectacle. The Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort will be an appropriate venue for a tournament that has been the favourite meeting place for the chess elite over the past two decades.

The 20th Amber Blindfold and Rapid Tournament will take place at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort in Monaco, from March 11 to 24, 2011.

The tournament is organized by the Association Max Euwe of chess maecenas Joop van Oosterom, which is based in Monaco.

This 20th Amber Tournament will be the final edition of an event unparalleled in the history of chess!

In this final jubilee edition the following grandmasters will take part:-

World Champion Viswanathan Anand (India) - (2817)
Magnus Carlsen (Norway) - (2815)
Levon Aronian (Armenia) - (2808)
Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) - (2785)
Vasily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) - (2779)
Sergey Karjakin (Russia) - (2776)
Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) - (2775)
Hikaru Nakamura (United States) - (2774)
Alexander Grischuk (Russia) - (2747)
Vugar Gashimov (Azerbaijan) - (2746)
Boris Gelfand (Israel) - (2733)
and Anish Giri (The Netherlands) - (2690)

The total prize-fund is € 227,000.

Excellent Show By Humpy - Wins The Women's Grand Prix!

Koneru Humpy of India perrformed well beyond one's expectations in the final round of the Qatar Women's Grand Prix, with black pieces, to score an emphatic win over Zhu Chen of Qatar to win the tournament in a nail-biting finish! After trailing
Armenian GM Elina Danielian, who had a dream of a tournament, for the entire tournament, Koneru Humpy scored 5.5 out of 6 after the break to win the 2011 Doha Grand Prix on tiebreaks!

Round eleven had all the thrills an action movie has!. After two peaceful draws between Nana Dzagnidze-Maia Chiburdanidze and Elina Danielian-Antoaneta Stefanova, all the attention turned to the games which would identify the winner of the Grand Prix in Qatar and also decide the other participant of the match with the reigning World Champion Yifan Hou of China.

A very important game that had a significant bearing on the final standings was played between Marie Sebag of France and Bathkhuyag Munguntuul of Mongolia. The French player also needed a win to share the first place. In that case, Nana Dzagnidze would get a ticket to the World Title Match with Yifan Hou as Koneru Humpy would not get enough points in overall series of Women Grand Prix. But, after almost 5 hours of fighting Marie Sebag was defeated by the Mongolian player and Koneru Humpy scored a crucial point, making her the Qatar Grad Prix winner on better tie-break & the player to fight for the World Crown against the Chinees prodigy & the reigning World Champion Yifan Hou!

INDIA TOP 30 - MARCH 2011!

WORLD CHESS CHAMPION VISHY ANAND headed the list of India's TOP 30 chess players! As he is the HIGHEST RATED CHESS PLAYER ON THE PLANET NOW with the career best 2817, there is no one in India to challenge his superiority anywhere near!

The second positioned Sasikiran, who lost some ELO points from his previous rating is 135 ELO points behind him. Though it was expected that Sasikiran would cross the 2700 mark again in the March rating list, it didn't happen as his perfomance was not enough to push him over into the 2700 group and he actually lost some precious ELO points too. 7 players including Sasikiran are in the 2600-2685 ELO bracket with the last placed GN Gopal coming back to the 2600 group.

The only female in 'the INDIAN TOP 10' Humpy's deteriorating form contributed into the reduction of her ELOs & it is a serious concern that she could not perform well in the tournaments she participated. She could not do well in the World Championship & in the Doha WGP she is not performing well justifying her highest rating in the event. Harika just lost '1' ELO point from her previous rating, maintaining the consistency she has been showing for some time now!

CHESS GM PROJECT!

The CHESS GM PROJECT, which was inaugurated on 14-06-10, in Bangalore, has been moving ahead with great enthusiasm since then, with scores of chess players & chess lovers getting involved in the project!

This is the project which is going to change the chess-scene completely, in the near future, with a very large number of Chess GMs emanating from India & conquering the International Chess Scenario!

The CHESS GM PROJECT is supposed to have achieved its full purpose within a very short time span of 24 months or 2 years. It is planned in such a way that those people who participate & go along the CHESS GM PROJECT are going to have a sea change in their thinking style & standard of living, as well! "The Man Who Thinks Lives!” is the basic thing about all the human existences; hence, thinking analytically becomes all the more important for the real existence!

No other game other than CHESS nurtures Analytical, Logical, Responsible & Quality thinking as its prime objective! World organisations such has W.H.O have recommended CHESS as something which has to be taught to the children in order to build & develop an ever growing army of quality human beings who think! Ofcourse, it is no small matter that such organisations recommend CHESS for children!

It is wonderful to know that CHESS teaches its students a million quality things including perfect calculation, planning, logical reasoning, responsible thinking & by the way responsible living! A human life - including that of any growing person - will not become wholesome without having the above said qualities in one's life; hence CHESS becomes integral to anything human! And, life without CHESS becomes something less worth living!

And, it is also interesting to know that this great game originated in India (BHARATH!) thousands of years ago! We should not forget to remember that the oldest of the civilisations grew here in India (BHARATH!), almost 7000 years ago. The same nation which gave MATHEMATICS, ASTRONOMY & YOGA to the world has given this great game too to the world to develop the human kind! And, to crown it all, the reigning world champion of CHESS too is an Indian (BHARATIYA!) named Viswanathan Anand, who has been keeping the world title under his belt for the last 3 years continuously; and he is the only World CHESS Champion who has won the World CHESS Crown in 3 different formats of World Championship, i.e. Tournament, Knock-out & Match!

It is the time for India (BHARATH!) to emerge big time on the world stage.......!
Hence, it has become ominous that such a great thing as CHESS GM PROJECT happens in India (BHARATH!) & leads the nation & world to THE ULTIMATE PLATFORM OF HUMAN EXISTANCE! Great Days Ahead........!!!
